It's that time of year again—that means it's time to think about New Year's resolutions! If you're like most people who make New Year's resolutions, you're probably going to set the same goal you have every year: lose weight, go to the gym, drink less alcohol. But if you're looking for an alternative resolution in 2023, we've rounded up a list of 8 things to try!
1. Prioritize Self-love
Health and wellness coach Katie Lips says, "Self-love should be part of everyone's new year's resolution." According to her, "with self-love on your side, any resolution is easier to stick to, any ambition easier to achieve. Learning self-love first not only helps you become more capable of achieving your goals, it makes you more realistic in your choices and it’ll make sure any resolution you do make will be in your best interests and just for you."
2. Spend quality time with the people you care about.
It is easy to lose touch with friends and family when you're busy with life. Make a commitment in 2023 to see those you care about most more often.
3. Be more Grateful
If you want to boost your mood, start or end each day by writing down three things for which you are grateful.
4. Start with small changes
I think we've all fallen into this trap before—we want to make big changes in our lives. But what happens is that these big changes are too drastic, and they aren't sustainable long-term.
Instead of making big changes that aren't sustainable, I recommend focusing on making easy, permanent changes in your life.
5. Walk outside often
Walking outside is one of the best ways to improve your physical and mental health, so this year make it a resolution to go outside more often. Even if you can't get out for long walks, just going outside to sit on the porch or walk around your neighborhood will give you an energy boost that will last all day!
6. Limit your phone time
We spend so much time on our phones that it's easy to forget that we actually have a life. But it's not just about getting off your phone—it's about focusing on what you want more of in life, and making sure your phone doesn't get in the way of those things.
If you want to make it a goal this year, try setting aside a specific time every day where you don't use your phone at all. You could even set up a "phone curfew," where you put your phone on airplane mode after 6pm, so that when you go to bed at night, instead of being tempted by notifications from work or friends popping up on your lock screen, they'll just be gone until morning.
7. Try a new activity or hobby
Trying a new activity or hobby is a great way to help you relax and take your mind off of the stresses in your life. It can be as simple as taking up yoga, or learning how to play an instrument. The important thing is that it helps you to unwind and decompress.
8. Eat healthy food
Instead of setting a goal to lose weight, which is really broad and vague, why not commit to eating healthy meals on a regular basis? It's much more specific, and this specificity will help you achieve your goals. You could commit to doing it three times each week, or even twice a week. The more specific your goal is, the more likely you are to achieve it.
That's it! Thanks for reading. I hope you found this blog post helpful. Have a great day/evening!
