Everyone deserves to love themselves, and this guide will help your heart and mind develop into a place where you can begin learning how to do it. If you are struggling with low self-esteem, lack self-love and positive affirmations, this is for you. Let's get started!
1. Nourish yourself
If you're new to the process of self-love, start by concentrating on nourishing yourself. Nurturing your body is the most fundamental form of self-love, so this week, be mindful of what you give your body—give it exactly what it needs.
Our eating habits also reflect how much we love ourselves. So practice self-care, and you'll lay strong foundations for self-love.
2. Take yourself out on a date
If you've never had a date with yourself before, now is the time. Solo dating is about spending time with yourself and doing something enjoyable for yourself. By doing something special for yourself that you would normally do for someone else, you are giving yourself the love and attention that you would normally give to others.
3. Start a gratitude journal
It’s been proven that if you write down five things you’re grateful for every day, your brain will become more positive and you’ll feel happier overall. It’s a great tool for practicing self-love because when you focus on what you have instead of what you don’t, it puts you into an attitude of gratitude and abundance.
So buy yourself a journal and at the end of each day, for the next week, write down five things you’re grateful for, including things that happened to you that day and people in your life that you appreciate. Also include yourself in these lists! Find one thing to be grateful for about yourself each day and your relationship with yourself will shift into a place where you feel incredibly loved.
4. Make your body happy
It's important when you're learning to love yourself to focus plenty of time and attention on your body. How you feel in your body affects how you feel about yourself. In fact, loneliness and lack of love often stem from a disconnect with yourself. So it's a good idea to do things that make you feel great in your body—whether that's yoga or running or even just dancing!
5. Express yourself
It’s important to find ways to express yourself, especially in a way that makes you feel free. Whether it’s dancing, writing, singing, painting, acting, or sculpting, everyone has something they did naturally as a child. It’s always something that makes you feel fully alive.
When do you feel most like yourself? Think about when that was, and try to make time for it in your life. It's important that you make time to do the things that allow you to express yourself from the heart, whether it's singing like no one is listening or dancing just for fun.
6. Write a loving letter to yourself
Pick up a pen and write yourself a letter. Write about the things in your life that make you happy right now, as well as the people in your life who bring you joy, inspiration, and kindness. Reflect on how you're feeling, give yourself a pep talk if necessary, and write down your future dreams and goals.
If you're struggling with something in your life right now, see what advice and encouragement you can give yourself, celebrate your accomplishments, and sign your letter off with love.
7. Shower yourself in feel-good vibes
We have the ability to create the feelings we want to have in life, regardless of where we are or what is going on around us. We simply need to learn how to access those feelings. One method is to think back to a time in your life when you felt full of joy and happiness and find a photo that reminds you of how good it felt to feel that way.
Now that you have the photo, put it somewhere you'll see it every day. Make it your phone's wallpaper or print it out and tape it to your bathroom mirror. Whenever you feel low, take out the photo and look at it. Let those good feelings come back to you.
That's it! Thanks for reading. I hope you found this blog post helpful. Have a great day/evening!
